Residents Meet MP about Bus Route

Local residents in Upper Walthamstow packed the Peterhouse Centre on 20th July for a meeting arranged by Neil Gerrard MP, with London Buses. Neil Gerrard called the meeting in response to concerns raised by many people in the area about the 230 bus route.

The decision by London Buses to run double decker buses on the route, and more recently to extend the operating hours, has led to a considerable number of complaints to London Buses about disturbance to people living along this part of the route.

Mr Gerrard said “Over the last few months I have been in touch with London Buses on a number of occasions, but unfortunately without a response to the concerns which I was raising. It was only after writing to the Transport for London Commissioner that the offer was made to me for a representative of London Buses to meet me and constituents.”

“Everyone at the meeting agreed that a bus route in the area was needed, but there were a lot of complaints about the effect of using double deckers through residential roads. Many people complained about the noise from the buses as they climbed steep hills, and the fact that the buses were now running well past midnight, with virtually no passengers in this part of the route”

"London Buses have agreed to monitor passenger numbers on the part of the route between Walthamstow Central and Upper Walthamstow, and to examine possible solutions to the problem. Much of the route does require double deckers, but I have no doubt that they are a problem in the narrow residential streets at this end of the route."
