Moscow Conference on AIDS

In June I attended a conference of MPs from a ranger of countries, held in Moscow at the State Duma, and focussing on the growing epidemics in Eastern Europe and Asia. Our aim was to press for attention to be given to this at the G8 summit in St Petersburg and to draw up plans for MPs to work together on HIV/AIDS across Europe and Asia.

At the end of the conference I took part in a discussion programme televised in Russia, with members of the public and AIDS activists.

The website of Transatlantic Partners Against AIDS, an NGO which assisted in the organisation of the conference, has a full report of the outcomes.

We hope to follow this up with a similar event next year in the run up to the G8 summit of 2007.
