MP Expresses Horror at Bombings Walthamstow MP Neil Gerrard expressed his horror at the bomb attacks in London last week. He said “This was an appalling attack on innocent people. All of us feel revulsion at what happened, and our thoughts are with the victims and their families and loved ones.” “Everyone I have spoken to since the bombings agrees that we will not allow those who perpetrate these attacks to stop us going about our daily lives. The emergency services did a magnificent job, and showed the benefit of the planning which has been done over recent years to help London cope with a terrorist attack.” “I know that many people in the Muslim communities are afraid of the reaction if it turns out that those responsible are from an extremist Islamic group, which is of course not yet known. The fact is that Muslims in London, and across the world, are just as appalled by what has happened as anyone else. There were Muslims among the victims. Scapegoating whole communities would be a stupid reaction to the actions of a tiny minority of extremists if it does eventually appear that an extremist Islamist group was responsible.” July 2005 (This press release was issued after the first attack, and before the bombers had been identified).
