Local Volunteer Honoured Neil Gerrard, MP for Walthamstow, recently welcomed local volunteer Jean Buniak to a reception at the House of Commons to recognise the work of older volunteers. Jean is now 83 years old, but is still working 3 afternoons a week for Age Concern Waltham Forest. Neil Gerrard said “Jean is a wonderful example to us all. She has been a volunteer for Age Concern for 18 years. She started in June 1989 in the Admin Office of Age Concern and then later that year when a charity shop was opened in Leytonstone she was one of the first volunteers to help run the shop. She has worked in the Age Concern Charity Shop ever since.” “Age Concern say that her loyalty and hard work over the years have been outstanding and that she is the best volunteer they have ever had at the shop. Profits from the shop go to help Age Concern fund work for older people in Waltham Forest.” “I was delighted to have Jean come to the House of Commons to what is now an annual event to recognise the work of older volunteers.” August 2007 |
