MP Calls For More Help For Disabled People

Neil Gerrard, Labour MP for Walthamstow is backing calls for the winter fuel payment to be extended to help severely disabled people under the age of 60.

“The winter fuel payment has been a huge help to pensioners” said Mr Gerrard “and has helped to make sure that they do not suffer from the cold during the winter. But there are over a million severely disabled adults and children in the country, many of whom feel the cold intensely and can find it difficult to adequately heat their home.”

“I am supporting calls for the winter fuel payment to be extended to everyone who receives the middle or higher rate of the care component of the disability living allowance, or the higher rate of the mobility component. These are the people with the most severe disabilities, who deserve more help.”
